We are trying to figure out what to do about sound at our outdoor beach wedding. We are expecting about 75 guests and want them to be able to hear what's going on.

We are having a steal drum player but he does not have sound equipment. We were thinking of one of those battery operated karaoke-type systems. We have an officiant and one of the BMs will be singing a song (and will need to be able to play the track).

Let me know what you think of what you are planning/did at your outdoor ceremony or one you have been to. Thanks!

Hey! I don't have any specific advice other than to be sure to check on what the rules are as far as sound goes; some beaches have noise ordinances. We're getting married in a garden and our officiant has a microphone and a single stand-speaker that we're going to use.

You'll want to rent a PA system if thats possible. Will you have access to power so that you can run an extension cord? Audio rental places usually charge around $150.

I don't think a battery powered karaoke system will do the job. I'm not sure of the sound quality of those things, and i'm not sure itll be loud enough for all your guests to hear.

We're renting (or going to rent) 2 sets of speakers, a wireless microphone, and sound mixer (to control volume).

@Amysue, thanks! We have checked and have obtained a permit for the ceremony. We can have amplified sound as long as it faces the ocean.

Do you have a DJ for the reception?  Can you ask him about setting up a PA system for the ceremony?  Sand SUCKS sound like you wouldn't believe, and the ocean is really noisy, in a very white noise, soothing way.

We went to a beach wedding in November.  Our friends used this portable PA system that they found in SkyMall of all places.  They got a closeout deal on a white one.   It comes with a plug-in mic, but has wireless capability too.  Best of all is the iPod dock on the top.  It's an investment, but to them it was worth it.
